Florida Poly’s 2022-2023 school year has officially begun, and to welcome students back onto the campus and into the culture, the Campus Activities Board (CAB) is once again hosting Purple Fire Week. Purple Fire Week kicked off yesterday, August 23rd, with the first 2 of its 7 events – the Back to Class Bash and the Movie on the Lawn. Each day, new events will take place.

TUESDAY

The Back to Class Bash is purple Fire Week’s very first event. It featured a rock-climbing wall, build-a-bear style bear stuffing, and lawn games like oversized Jenga and Chess.

The Movie on the Lawn, featuring Dr. Strange and the Multiverse of Madness, was originally supposed to happen in a tent on the field between the dormitories and the IST. Heavy rains led staff to adapt and move the event indoors into the IST. Moviegoers enjoyed snow cones and popcorn as the movie ran into the night. Anyone who attended was able to participate in a raffle for three prizes – a wireless speaker, a projector, and an Amazon speaker.

WEDNESDAY

Club SDC: Power Hour will be a guided workout with music and lights taking place in the SDC, hosted by Derek Lower.

THURSDAY

Club Row will be taking place from 10:30am-2:00pm in the NEST, not on the field between the dormitories and the IST! The location was recently changed. Nearly all student clubs and organizations will be present at Club Row, tabling and advertising to potential new recruits. It’s a great place to see all the clubs and learn more about campus culture if you’re new to Florida Poly; even if you’re not new, it’s a good place to network. Visit the clubs, find your interests, and be sure to visit the Layers table!

Happening alongside Club Row is Tie-Dye & Ice Cream, a very self-explanatory occasion. Make Tie-Dye art with free Purple Fire Week t-shirts, and enjoy ice cream courtesy of May Day Ice Cream.

Drag Queen Bingo will be happening in the ARC in room 2200 later in the evening from 7:00pm-9:00pm. Play bingo, win prizes, and enjoy the dazzling performances.

FRIDAY

Nerf Tech Trek will be mini-games hosted by Nerf Tech from 1:30pm-4:30pm, in a tent between the dormitories and the IST.  Nerf Tech will provide light snacks and drinks for attendees.

Neon Night this year will be quite different from the Neon Nights of semesters and years past. Instead of being a glow-in-the-dark casino, this year’s Neon Night will feature a skating rink, music, pizza, and drinks in a glow-in-the-dark setting. It will be from 8:00pm-11:00pm at the SDC Basketball Court.

SATURDAY

Let’s Relax, S’More will be the last event in Purple Fire Week, taking place at the Residence Hall Pool from 7:00pm-9:00pm. The event thematically centers around making s’mores, but will feature coloring, bubbles, and games to help students de-stress from their first week.
